The first and definitive commentary on the Kyōgyōshinshō.
The source of many of the terms used for doctrinal classification in Jōdo Shinshū. Annotation and commentary are highly philological, focusing on titles, headings, and word-by-word glosses, relying heavily on Classical Chinese dictionaries. Considered the essential guide to the Kyōgyōshinshō by Rennyo, and read even outside of the Hongwanji tradition. The base manuscript for the Kyōgyōshinshō used by Zonkaku differs from the Bandō edition and other versions, making it helpful for understanding different early forms of the Kyōgyōshinshō.
